Patients infected with corona virus are treated at Wuhan University hospital.

According to SCMP, the antiviral drug tested is Remdesivir developed by biopharmaceutical company Gilead Sciences in the US.

Remdesivir was administered to the first US patient infected with the disease last week.

China’s National Health Commission said on February 3 that the testing process of Remdesivir will be conducted at many hospitals in Wuhan city, where the pneumonia epidemic caused by the new coronavirus originated.

The World Health Organization (WHO) said it is still working with partners to accelerate research and development of drugs to treat the new corona virus.

Epidemiologist Zhong Nanshan, who played an important role in the campaign to deal with the SARS epidemic in China in 2002-2003, said on February 2 that although there is currently no vaccine or specific medicine to treat SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia,

“We have developed an effective treatment regimen based on our experience in dealing with the SARS epidemic, using a variety of methods to support patients to achieve higher recovery rates,” he said.

While scientists around the world are still trying to research vaccines to deal with the pneumonia epidemic caused by the new corona virus, the Russian Ministry of Health has announced three drugs that can be used to treat patients.

China is also rushing to implement epidemic prevention measures and research vaccines.

Li Lanjuan, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Engineering, on February 3 shared with CCTV that her team has isolated 8 new strains of corona virus in the laboratory, including strains that are very suitable for making

A medical team of 10 people led by Ms. Li, China’s leading epidemiologist, returned to Wuhan on February 2.
