Conveniently taking a photo for her husband, the wife returned home only to discover the shadow of her deceased mother in the lens, causing a lot of controversy.
It all started in 1959. Mabel Chinnery was still a young girl visiting her late mother’s grave in Ipswich, England.
Afterwards, Mabel and her husband returned home together, washed the photo but still did not realize what was strange.
Mabel told this story to her husband and they both agreed that it was the shadow of her deceased mother.
Mrs. Mabel and her husband, Mr. Jim, were also invited to participate in the television show World of Strange Powers in 1985. There, experts conducted research and dissected the photo to see if it was a phenomenon.
Dr. Steve Gull and Tim Newton used computer software created in the 1980s to examine the photo.
It is known that double exposure is an overlapping photography technique, taking advantage of two light sources with different intensity and lighting time on the same film.
A prime example of the double exposure technique.
Up to now, the photo of Mabel and her husband is still often mentioned by netizens.
In 2015, Blake learned about Mabel’s photo, starting with the car that Jim drove.
Blake affirmed that the results showed some typical details of the double exposure technique, especially the scarf of `Mabel’s late mother` as if it encroached on the frame of the car.
After a period of research, Blake also came to the conclusion that there were no ghosts appearing in the photo.
