Hong Kong strictly punishes people who escape quarantine

The 32-year-old woman, living at 159 Reclamation Street, Yau Ma Tei, listened to her relatives and deliberately avoided meeting medical staff to avoid being sent to centralized quarantine.

`She left the building when we took 9 people including family members and neighbors to the quarantine area,` said Dr. Chuang Shuk-kwan, head of the infectious diseases branch, Center for Health Protection.

The government is considering prosecuting both husband and wife for not truthfully reporting their contact history.

Before discovering she was infected with nCoV, this woman went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for prenatal check-ups twice, always wearing a mask.

`False declaration and evasion of quarantine will affect your family and other citizens,` Chuang emphasized.

People at Hoi Yu House residential area in Mong Kok are tested for Covid-19.

The woman was one of 27 new cases in Hong Kong on February 7, including 3 cases of people returning from Indonesia, 6 cases of unknown origin.

Chuang expressed concern that people are complacent about the epidemic as the Lunar New Year is approaching, and many people want to reunite with their families.

`Several recent cases have all attended parties of up to 20 people. We hope everyone will consider before holding a year-end party.`

Meanwhile, the number of infections at construction sites continues to increase.

Director of the Hong Kong Department of Health and Food Hygiene Sophia Chan Siu-chee agreed with Hong Kong’s blockade campaign.

Chan also expressed hope that the government advisory board will soon meet to discuss the use of Sinovac’s Covid-19 vaccine.

Hong Kong began to tighten social distancing measures in early December 2020, banning dining in restaurants, limiting the number of people allowed to gather in public to two people, and closing thousands of businesses.
