Ashleigh Barty and her winding road to number one in women’s tennis

At the end of May 2016, Barty registered from the qualifying round to attend the grass court tournament in Eastbourne, a tournament below the professional level of the WTA Tour and has a prize money of 50,000 USD.

Exactly three years after returning to the English court, Barty shined as world number one and became `famous` in the women’s tennis industry.

Considered a prodigy with the Wimbledon junior championship at the age of 15, Barty suddenly gave up tennis to switch to cricket at the end of 2014. This period lasted for more than a year before she picked up the racket again in 2014.

Eastbourne marked the return to Barty’s tennis career with a winning streak of six consecutive matches here and that was enough for her to be listed on the WTA at position 623. Then a series of five wins in Nottingham the following week helped Barty qualify.

Barty version 2.0 is stronger, more decisive and more creative than the first generation.

Possessing a modest height of 1m66, Barty is one of the shortest players in the world of women’s tennis.

Just 14 months after ending the WBBL season with the Brisbane Heat cricket team and returning to the tennis court, Barty won his first WTA title at the Malaysia Open in 2017. WTA Elite Trophy championship in Zhuhai in November 2018

Barty succeeded thanks to his special athletic qualities, even though his body shape is not really perfect compared to many other tennis players.

However, few people could have expected that Barty would make a big leap this year.

In the Fed Cup arena, the main factor Barty brought the Australian team to the final of this 56-year-old world women’s team tennis tournament for the first time in 26 years.
