Varane could not stop Costa’s dribble and cunning shot.

Atletico’s quick opening goal really forced Real to play more focused.

In the 27th minute, Bale shined with a right wing slope and then a cross into the penalty area.

As if fueled by excitement, Real attacked more strongly after that.

Ramos helped Real take a 2-1 lead.

Adding Luka Modric to the field at the beginning of the second half, Real continued to play proactively.

Having the advantage of leading the goal, Real could not keep it until the end of kick-off time.

Coming back from the dead, Atletico played more confidently.

In the 99th minute, after Varane’s mistake of losing the ball, Thomas Partey made a cross for Saul Niguez to volley from 15 meters to beat goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Goalkeeper Navas flew out of range but could not block Niguez’s volley.

Not giving Real a chance to equalize, Atletico continued to score against Navas in the 104th minute. Costa once again shined when he dribbled boldly on the left wing and then passed back to the center.

The victory over neighbor Real helped Atletico win the European Super Cup for the third time, after twice in 2010 and 2012. Meanwhile, Real missed the opportunity to equal the record of five crowns held by Barca and AC Milan.
