Floyd, 46 years old, grew up in a predominantly black area of Houston, Texas, USA.

Christopher Harris, a childhood friend of Floyd, said that he and some mutual friends went to Minneapolis, Minnesota, looking for work around 2014, after Floyd was released from prison.

Floyd later found work as a truck driver and security guard for the Conga Latin Bistro restaurant in downtown Minneapolis.

`He was always happy,` Jovanni Tunstrom, the restaurant’s owner, said.

However, when the governor of Minnesota issued a blockade order to prevent Covid-19, asking people to stay home and restaurants were forced to close, Floyd also lost his job.

However, on the evening of May 25, an employee at a grocery store in Minneapolis called the police accusing Floyd of trying to pay the bill with a fake $20 bill.

`Please, please, please, I can’t breathe. Please,` Floyd begged.

George Floyd was strangled by a white police officer on the streets of Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 25.

After a few minutes, a police officer told Floyd to `relax.`

The four police officers involved in the incident have been fired.

`The way he died was absurd,` Harris said.

Thousands of protesters took to the streets of Minneapolis on the nights of May 26 and 27 to demand justice for Floyd.

US President Donald Trump announced that he had asked the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice to investigate the `very sad and tragic` death of George Floyd.
